Of gifts from cats and catlike gifts

When I had a cat for a pet, he often brought us gifts...things we weren't happy to receive, like dead mice and birds. We tried hard to see the generosity in his offerings, but try as we might, they were just dead things. I've been thinking about this a lot this morning, as I have already received SO many gifts from those who love me. The first gift came at 6am when Ian, who has recently stopped napping and should be VERY tired, decided to wake up and play cars. I thought maybe the sounds I was hearing were somehow coming from Sam getting ready for school, but alas...they were not. In his early morning playing spree, he had also waken up Lizzie, who should have been sleeping another 90 minutes and will now be very tired. I turned off the lights and sent them both back to bed with orders to go to sleep, but my efforts were in vain.
