Summer Vacation
Back in January, Lee was planning to hike the John Muir Trail in California. It was about 200 miles and would take 2 1/2 weeks. Only my two oldest wanted to go with him, so I suggested that it would be nice for the rest of us to have an adventure of our own. I bought airplane tickets (out of our small local airport! $42 each way!) and booked hotels and bought tickets to Legoland. Then, a month later, Lee didn't get the permits (because it was a lottery system and he wasn't the lucky winner). So, they stayed home and we had our adventure anyway. If I doubted that we were in for an adventure, I only needed to listen to the enthusiasm bubbling out of my kids. While on our flight to LA, Ian got up to use the restroom. Dillon's face lit up and he declared, "I want to use that bathroom, too. I love those things!" After I laughed, assuming he was joking around, he said, "I'm serious! They're cool!"
