On turning 40
I have been looking forward to this birthday for a long time because it means I can now legitimately feel old. Plus, it's a good opportunity to celebrate the great life that I have. And so we did. My favorite part was a serenade from my brother-in-law. Every year he calls me and sings the phrase, "Lisa, it's your birthday...Happy Birthday, Lisa," from the Simpson's episode where Bart and a Michael Jackson wanna be sing the song to Lisa. This year, my birthday serenade was the entire song with all the lyrics, and he sang it with gusto and skill, and he made me smile. It's nice to have family that loves you enough to risk making a fool of themselves to celebrate with you.
