A Glimpse of Nature
I was out on my front porch, talking with a friend and noticed a hummingbird flying around one of my flowering plants. At the same time, a preying mantis caught my eye as it quickly crawled across the lower branches of a nearby bush. When I looked again, the two creatures were locked together and I tried to figure out who had whom. I soon realized it was a large moth -- not a hummingbird. And the preying mantis had been scurrying along the bush because he was stalking his prey. The moth's wings fluttered, but the two creatures didn't separate from each other. And then the fluttering stopped and we moved closer to watch the preying mantis eat the insides out of the moth. It went from beautiful nature moment to "gross...I think I'm going to barf." At least the moth didn't suffer long because the mantis went straight for the head and devoured his brains.
