A Fresh Perspective

As I was sitting in church today listening to the messages about women and mothers, I suddenly realized that I was not feeling irritable on Mother's Day.  I used to get so cranky because either I didn't measure up to what everyone was telling me I needed to be, or because it was supposed to be a relaxing, pampering day for me and I wasn't feeling relaxed or pampered. Lately, I've tried to make Mother's Day more of a celebration of how lucky we all are (because every single person on earth DOES indeed have a mother) that we were given life by someone who loved us more than themselves.  And I've tried to celebrate all the things that I can do or the positive characteristics I have that I learned from my mother.  It's not ACTUALLY a day about me.  It's a day given as a gift to my children to reflect on how lucky they are to have a mother who loves them just as it is a gift to me to celebrate my own mother. My Latest Obsession

I love watching my kids do the things that they enjoy.  I love reading their writing and viewing their art and cheering for them in plays and competitions and games.  My latest obsession is Dillon running and jumping.  His long legs look so graceful as he speeds around the track or runs down the straightaway or leaps over the hurdles. Last weekend, I made the entire family join me in cheering for Dillon.  We all oohed and aahed and cheered louder than anyone around us.  It was poetry and art and athleticism...5 hours of waiting and 44 seconds of beauty.  (Sigh...)
