Farewell to a Giant

I'm sitting here listening to the hum of the newly installed hospital bed in my father in law's room.  On Christmas Eve 2018 he told me he wasn't going to live to have another birthday.  He will turn 90 in 2 1/2 weeks, but I think he was right that he isn't going to make it.  It is sad to see him suffering with the pain of his body shutting down.   However, it feels more like a celebration to know that he has lived a good life and is ready to return home to his Father in Heaven.  He will get to see his wife, who he has missed dearly for 5 years (more than that if you count the years she was already "gone" while she suffered with Alzheimer's).  I am happy for him that he will not have to suffer anymore. Even in death, the man is nothing but kindness and selflessness.  Up until this last week, he has asked continuously, "What can I do to help?"  He rarely complained even when it was obvious that he was uncomfortable.  He was loving an...

The clergyman in Princess Bride may have been difficult to understand, but he was right.  Love can be a dream within a dream. At lunch with his co-workers, they were all comparing what they were doing for their wives for Valentine's Day and he said that he had cleaned the bathrooms for me.  Instead of oohing and aahing because it was a totally selfless, wonder...

It's That Time of Year Again!

1.  Time for celebrating the month of Lisa!   Anyone that knows me knows it is a month long celebration of finally being one year closer to being old enough to feel as achy as I feel.  Hooray!! 2.  Time for cold mornings, wool socks every day, and sometimes walks in the snow.   I love how quiet it is when snow is falling or when the earth is blanketed in loads of beautiful snow.  I almost always have cold feet in the winter, so I have an extensive wool sock collection and look forward to wearing them every day.   Lee is kind and will always join me for a walk in a snowstorm.  We stopped to admire the art on the light pole from the snow slipping down. We pulled out the lawn chairs and bundled up warm to watch the lunar eclipse and blood moon in January. 3.  Time for science projects .  Lizzie knows from past experience that anyone that participates in the STEM fair at the high school is guaranteed to win at distri...
