We're all a little Nutty

OK.  So we haven't had a court of honor yet, but I was so excited for Mckay last night when he received approval for his Eagle scout rank at his board of review.  Several months ago, I was frustrated with how things were going and wrote down some of the things I've learned from guiding Mckay through his Eagle project process.  Maybe now is a good time to share them: Teaching leadership is hard. Sometimes we can do our best to communicate effectively and still not succeed at it. Our idea of success or "the best way" to do something is not necessarily someone else's. There are lots of adults afraid of trying new things. You need something more than interest or passion to propel you forward and get things done. Jumping through all the hoops made me hate scouts more (but that was probably a momentary emotion).

It's weird to think that I used to love Halloween as a kid and am such a grump about it as an adult.  Fortunately, I haven't completely robbed my kids of their fun.  Both Lizzie and Ian declared it to have been awesome.  Lizzie actually counts down to it because the candy makes it almost cooler than Christmas for her.  FYI, 200 fun size candy bars was too many to buy for the trick-or-treaters.  I'm being totally sarcastic when I declare that to be a bummer.  There's a reason I bought Snickers, Mars, and Reeses. Everyone carved their own pumpkins this year.  Ian was a tiger, Lizzie was an artist, and Dillon was a Keekynet employee.  (Can you believe that those giant nerdy glasses were the ones I wore when Lee and I were dating?  I'm amazed he fell in love with me!)  Sam made good use of our unripe pumpkin from the garden. This was the coolest costume I saw.  This boy is a fanatic about volcanos.  His mom must reall...
