Nobody can prepare you for how to teach this stuff!

We have recently passed another parenting milestone in the category of things that no one can truly prepare you for.  First, there's potty training.  Done with that for this generation.  Then there's tying shoes.  Check.  (Though not as early as we should have.)  And now, today...riding a bike.  One of those hard to learn things that we berate ourselves for if our kids haven't learned by a certain age.  And one of those things that there isn't one right or wrong way to do...you just have to jump in and not turn back.

And so, we must be getting old.  Because now all of our kids know how.  And we only have easy stuff to deal with from here on out...like learning to drive 4 more times; dating; choosing a university to attend; choosing a spouse; getting along with in-laws; and the list goes on.

Today's bike riding lesson was a piece of cake.  He got it on the first try and never looked back.  So, I guess it's like potty training...if you wait for enough of the "readiness cues" then the process will be less taxing on everyone.  And suddenly he is all grown up (and that bike looks way too small!).  But, we are all smiling.
