Family Vacation
We escaped to sunny (?) San Diego for a week and made quite a few memories. Here are some highlights:
First we met my brother in Mesquite (as he was driving north and we were headed south) so that we could finally meet his new baby.
We enjoyed the Spanish village art shops on Sunday afternoon.
We convinced the kids NOT to jump off "suicide bridge."
My parents met up with us, unaware that they might be in danger in our company.

Lizzie and Ian amused people standing around them as they repeatedly tried to pet a fish in the pond in front of the botany building in Balboa Park. In the rain.
Isn't that gorgeous? This is one of my favorite locations in San Diego.
Ian got kissed by a bird.
And Dillon, Lizzie and Lee got to hold one.
Lizzie was selected as a soldier at the Mormon Battalion visitor's center. I imagine that missionary has a hard time being taken seriously with those demonic eyes...
We tried to show Ian that boogie boarding was fun.
We ate sushi at the beach, among other things that had more general appeal.
We visited Lee's old stomping grounds and vandalism sites.
We had plenty of alone time with the panda at the zoo.
Dillon took 4th place in the hula hoop contest. Lisa didn't want to make the children feel badly, so she chose not to participate.
We rented a small sailboat which Lee enjoyed taking the kids in for an hour or so.
Lisa and Ian were an awesome team in the kayak (pictured AFTER the ride, of course).
We enjoyed s'mores at my brother's house. I loved the delight on Ian's face when we let him roast the giant 8 marshmallow glob.
We loved looking in the tidepools at La Jolla Cove.
I could watch those waves crash on the cliffs all day.
We took turns choosing where to eat each day. This sandwich shop was Mckay's choice.
La Jolla Shores was not the swimming haven we hoped it would be. Pieces of these bad boys were scattered everywhere. We wished we had noticed that BEFORE we went swimming.
We visited the place where our family began.
We welcomed Caroline into our family.
We made Alaina hike in heels at Torrey Pines.
Lee indulged in a first time tandem paraglide over the cliffs.
The kids had a hard time going to sleep with the new kitty to enjoy.
But, they slept better the next day, on the way home, exhausted from a long week, and lots of reading about Lego Star Wars figures.

The kids generally spend more time playing in the sand than in the water. This is a portion of their kingdom.

That sounds fabulous. I do love the beach.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun vacation! Lee told us about everyone taking a turn to pick eating locations. Fabulous idea!
